Luis Alberto Estevez Tamares is a Database Administrator in Authority Partners. He was born in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, but he grew up in the United States. He returned to his hometown when he was fifteen years old. He graduated Computer Science from the National University Pedro Henriquez Urena in Santo Domingo. Technology has been his passion since he was a child, and that love was his guide in choosing a professional career. Luis has over 16 years of experience as a Database Administrator. He is happily married and has three beautiful children. The witty Luis says that his favorite cardio is running after his two boys.

We decided to share his story of how a simple click on a job post changed his career.

AP: Share with us where are you from and what is the most interesting thing about your country?

LE: I am from the Dominican Republic. There are many interesting things about the Dominican Republic like this island was the first permanent European settlement in the Americas, Santo Domingo is the oldest city in the Americas. We also have the tallest mountain peak in the entire Caribbean named Duarte’s peak. Also, we have lots of beautiful beaches, among other things. But, in my opinion, the most interesting thing about my country is the people. Dominicans are very peculiar people, they are very friendly, very accommodating, very good at baseball, and they love to eat!

AP: What sparked your interest into applying for a job at Authority Partners?

LE: Before I started working as a production DBA, I began my IT career as a Software Developer. Developing is my first passion, and when my friend who works here at AP told me about the job opening, I felt this was a great opportunity. Also, my friend talked to me about his experience working at AP and the way the consultants are treated that really helped make the decision easier.

AP: When you started working at AP, what were your expectations?

LE: My expectations were to be able to provide value to AP and its clients while also expanding my knowledge and continue growing.

AP: How long are your working at AP?

LE: I have been working at AP for 10 months.

AP: Did the expectations change from the time you started until now?

LE: No, my expectations have not changed. However, seeing how passionate everyone at AP is with providing continued excellence to our clients has motivated me to not only want to keep learning new things about the technologies I already know but also get out of my comfort zone and learn new technologies that will help me provide better value.

AP: What do you think about your team?

LE: My team is made up of a very capable group of professionals. I love how they are very goal-oriented and work efficiently to accomplish their tasks. They are also very helpful and friendly. Every time I had any issues or questions, they have been there helping me solve those issues.

AP: Can you share with us an interesting story that happened while working in AP global team?

LE: When I first started at AP, I really loved what I was seeing from the colleagues, the work environment, and I was so hyped about the whole situation that I started talking about it with other friends in the IT community here. I started referring to people, and a couple of them got hired. I think I sent over like a dozen CVs, I felt like I was a part of the recruiting team (Which by the way are awesome people!!), and locally here in the DR I felt like an evangelist preaching the good news of a great place for all IT professionals!

AP: Are you enjoying your experience?
